Emma Popplewell
Adv Dip CABC, Bsc (Hons) Since a child, I have grown up having being surrounded by animals, and always had a fascination about watching different animals interact and behave. My passion for animals continued to develop and I dedicated my time to caring for them, especially in relation to welfare issues. This passion was not so rewarding for my parents, as it resulted in me bringing home a variety of different animals, ranging from a hamster to a new forest pony. After studying psychology at University, I went on to gain a Postgraduate Diploma in Companion Animal Behaviour Counselling, from Southampton University in 2002. I set up my own successful practice in West Sussex dealing with behaviour problems and running local dog training classes. As well as private work, I have worked for organisations such as Battersea Dogs Home and Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, developing practical dog handling skills and experience of training complex tasks to both dog and owner. I feel that the knowledge and experience I have gained in both human and animal behaviour, allow me to understand and work closely with both the owner and their pet. Having moved to Hampshire, I decided to set up Bark2School and continue using my expertise, and knowledge gained over the last 10 years, with the aim to promote responsible pet ownership and provide owners with learning opportunities and support. I hope by teaching pet owners to understand WHY their pet behaves in a certain way, will help them to work and train with their dogs in a more kind effective way, and ultimately improve their relationship,. I work closely with Vets, Pet Organisations, and Charities both in West Sussex and Hampshire, and been featured on the local radio and newspapers.
